Now this is the most shocking thing I have heard in a long time....

If you are Texan you know how many songs we have about the state. One of the most popular ones wasn't even written by a Texan.

This song was written back in 1941 and was released around the time the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, ushering the United States of America into Word War II. The song's popularity is partly due to the war.

This song was written by June Hershey and the music by Don Swander. June Hershey was born in Los Angeles, California where it was actually recorded as well.

The song....Deep In The Heard Of Texas.

"Deep in the Heart of Texas" spent 10 weeks at the top Billboard Charts in 1942. It is estimated the song has been played on the radio more than a million times throughout the world.

Don Swande was born on March 25th, 1905 in Marshall Town Iowa, and died July 29th, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. June was his wife.

According to composer Don Swander: "It was World War II which made it a hit," Swander said. "Those Texans go all over and raise hell. They wanted to hear the song." (lasvegassun.com) He also said that he was "ashamed that he had written it.

"I am ashamed of 'Texas.' It's a two-chord song," he said back in an interview in 1982.

Swander composed more than 3,000 other tunes during his life, but this song was his biggest hit.

Can You Guess These Towns From Their Satellite Photos?

I'm always down for a good brain challenge. This one however got the best of me.
It's always a fun time looking up address or cities and seeing them from a satellite point of view. You start pointing out landmarks and things you recognize.

One thing you don't account for however is something looking bigger or smaller than you seemed to think it was. So we started grabbing a bunch of these satellite pictures of cities and towns around Amarillo.

As we looked at them, we thought to ourselves, "how fun would this be to actually have to GUESS what these places are?". So away we went.

Go ahead and try to see how many you can guess correctly!
