Update: The City of Lubbock's municipal pools, well, two of them anyway, will now open on Friday, July 3rd, 2020. Their openings have been delayed in response to Governor Abbott's executive order Friday morning, June 26th, 2020.

So we need to be patient a little bit longer and we can look forward to gathering up the whole family and (safely!) taking that big splash soon in time for the 4th of July weekend.

Original story: When the weather starts heating up, there's nothing like a great, refreshing dip in the pool. Pool fun and family water fun has been on hold for a while now due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pool openings are certainly wonderful news. Are you ready? The two pools that are set to open on Friday, June 26th are the Mae Simmons Pool and the Montelongo Pool. Kickoff for 2020 pool season will be 1 p.m. and roll on through 6 p.m.

Moving forward, the official operating hours will be Tuesday through Sunday, 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. There are special entrance fees for youth (anyone 17 years old and younger): $2. Adult entry is $3. And kids under 2 are free.

You'll want to bring the things you'll need as pool rentals will not be available. Swim lessons are also not on the calendar yet.

They will be taking special safety precautions and limiting capacity. So that means you want to get there early before the pool fills up. A parent or guardian must accompany children under age 13.

Mae Simmons Pool is located at Mae Simmons Park, 24th and MLK Boulevard. You can find Montelongo Pool in Rogers Park (adjacent to the Rawls Golf Course) at 3200 Bates Street, near North Gary Avenue.
