Texas Tech Pom Squad Members Are World Champions
The Texas Tech Cheer and Pom squads are perennially in the mix to win National Championships for their cheering and dancing at the collegiate level in the states. What you might not have known is that not only can the teams dominate at the national level, they can also dominate at the international level.
The Texas Tech University Pom Squad is the best in the world after claiming the 2022 International Cheer Union World Cheerleading Gold Medal in Jazz Dance. The Red Raiders competed as Team USA as the 2022 National Premier Jazz Team. They stood above Team Mexico and Team Puerto Rico on the podium.
"I am so grateful we got the opportunity to represent the U.S. this year," said Erin Harold Alvarado, head coach of the pom squad, in a press release. "This has been a goal of ours for so long, and we definitely proved that we are deserving of this goal medal. I am so proud of our students and the way they carried themselves and represented the U.S. and Texas Tech throughout this entire process. I couldn’t have imagined better performances, and I’m so proud to say we are world champions!"
Iowa State University Dance Team represented Team USA in the pom division and the UNLV Rebel Girls & Company represented Team USA in the hip-hop division, with Team USA winning first place in all three divisions during yesterday’s preliminary competition and today’s finals.

This is truly a lifelong memory that might be an even bigger accomplishment than winning a national championship. Both have to be pretty special though, and these women have experience with both anyways.
Go Team USA!!
