The City Of Lubbock’s Only Pool Sets It’s Opening, Here’s Why
Summer is almost here, and if you're looking to cool off at a city pool we have some good news for you. We now know when one of Lubbock's municipal swimming pools will open up and what it will offer this year.
Starting Friday, May 26th, 2022, the City of Lubbock will open one of its swimming pools for the community to enjoy.
This pool is Clapp Pool located at 46th Street, and Avenue U, Lubbock, TX, 79412 - Located in Clapp Park.
Entry at each swimming pool is $2 for kids 17 and under and $3 for adults. Children who are 2 years old and under get in free. Normal Operating Hours: Tuesday - Sunday, 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM
K-9 Splashfest at Clapp Pool is happening on Sunday, August 6th, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The last day of the pool season is Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Clapp will be the only one open because the city is using the $7.8 million dollars from the American Rescue Plan Act to replace the other pools with three splash pads. So that means Montelongo Pool, Mae Simmons Pool, and Maxey Pool.
The reason it was passed is that the old pools and equipment were costing the city too much to be fixed, so they're trying something new. The decision came after nearly seven decades of city pools opening for the summer.
There is no details out yet on what exact amenities will be a part of the splash pads or how long it will take to build. The plan is to have them ready for next season.
These splash pads would be open for 8 months of the year, unlike the city pools that are only open for 2 to 3 months during the summer. They will be accessible to everyone and won't cost the citizens a dime.
They're also looking a building a future aquatic center. This would be an indoor and outdoor pool similar to the one at the Texas Tech Recreation Center. There's no decision on that as of yet.
