Entering his second and final season as a defensive end for the Red Raiders, Tony Jones is more prepared. Having spent a year learning the scheme, Jones knows what to expect.

"I've been in the scheme for a year, so I know what to expect now and I can now focus more on my craft this season," Jones told 1340 The Fan's Rob Breaux during a talk at Texas Tech's 2018 football media day.

One of the biggest things that Defensive Coordinator David Gibbs has talked about was causing turnovers and being able to do that more consistently. Jones knows that in order for that to happen, it needs to become more of a habit on the defensive side.

"I mean, it just has to become more of a habit, our coaches do a great job of preaching, work the football, and secure the football," Jones said. "Once you get in the habit of that, sometimes you don't even realize that you're trying to get the ball."

Texas Tech football has never been known for their defense; it's always about the offense. With Coach Gibbs entering his forth season and with the defense making strides along the way, Jones is beginning to sense a different vibe within the Texas Tech defense.

"The vibe is completely different than when I first got here," Jones shared. "When I first got here, the vibe was a little iffy, people were in their own lanes. But I feel like this off season, we came together as a group and we bonded together as a team. This is a whole different vibe, I think this year is going to be a good year for us."
