Texas Tech Playing in the Shiner’s College Classic is Bigger than Baseball
Texas Tech baseball takes a five-game winning streak on the road this weekend before starting a long stretch at Dan Law Field. The Red Raiders are 0-3 away from the friendly confines so far this season, but I'm willing to bet that changes quickly this weekend.
The Red Raiders will go with the same rotation as last weekend. Brandon Birdsell will get on the bump Friday against Texas State RHP Zachary Leigh. Patrick Monteverde, who has started on fire this season, will start on Saturday against Sam Houston State LHP Matt Dillard. In the final game of the weekend, Mason Montgomery will take the hill against TAMUCC RHP Hayden Thomas.
The games will be hosted at Minute Maid Park in Houston as part of the Shriner's Children's Hospital College Classic. Baseball is important to the Red Raiders, but they got a chance to interact with who they are supporting this weekend in the Shriner's College Classic:
Texas Tech Athletics does a lot of community service, but to have two kids out to practice really is a special experience, and as Tim Tadlock said, "All of us get a lot more out of today than probably they get out of it."
If you want to learn more or donate to Shriner's Children's Hospital you can do so here.
TCU and Rice will join Texas Tech and their opponents to play nine games in total this weekend. All nine games of the tournament will be televised by AT&T SportsNet SW and streamed on Astros.com, MLB.com, the AT&T SportsNet app and the MLB app. If you go to astros.com, it's right on the homepage.
