Texas Tech Gameday Traffic Is Going to Be a Cluster. Here’s How to Navigate It Best
Texas Tech football season kicks off this Saturday night (September 3rd) at 7 p.m., but the construction on 19th Street is going to have some fans kicking themselves for not taking an alternative route.
The yellow area indicated in the aerial photo above shows where 19th Street is down to one lane in both directions. It was an absolute pleasure to navigate it during our recent rains, let me tell you.
If you can avoid 19th Street entirely, you should. Our friends at Lubbock Avalanche-Journal have compiled excellent information on where to park and how much it will cost. Personally, I would utilize the inexpensive shuttle that Citibus is offering.
Shuttle service will begin three hours prior to kickoff and end one hour after the game. Pickup locations will be is north of the John Walker Soccer Complex at Texas Tech Parkway and 10th Street, and northwest of Health Sciences Center for ADA Only on Texas Tech Parkway and 5th Street. Riders can be dropped off at Raider Alley.
If you must take 19th Street, be prepared for delays. Give yourself plenty of extra time, and be sure to heed the cones and barrels so you don't damage your vehicle. Utilize your box breathing technique because this is just practice for the entire season:
Beginning in July, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) began pavement repairs and storm sewer construction along 19th Street. Construction is expected to last through the upcoming academic year and will impact game day traffic for the duration of the season.
Is this frustrating? Absolutely. But don't let that bleed into your good time. Fall and football is a time for joy. Just be careful there and back.
