On Friday, October 16th, Texas Tech will be unveiling the newly renovated Dairy Barn, which has undergone a $3.5 million renovation and is now a fully functioning academic facility.

Back in 2017, the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources announced the restoration project aimed to bring the barn to a working academic facility.

The Texas Tech Dairy Barn, one of the oldest and most recognizable structures on the entire campus, has been vacant for around 50 years. It was originally built in 1926, and is 1 of the 4 original buildings on what was known as Texas Technological College. It has since survived a fire, years of neglect and multiple demolition threats.

With the barn being located in the heart of the campus, it's believed to be an ideal collaborative and conference space for Texas Tech students, faculty and staff.

Two large meeting areas were planned o be implemented on the barn's first floor as well as loft spaces and several offices in what were livestock stalls. The group meeting and open-space areas feature internet connectivity, open writing and exhibit spaces.

KAMC News reports that the last time the barn had received any attention was back in 2012 when the structure received a new coat of paint and a weathered roof was replaced.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on October 16th at 8:30 a.m. You can watch the event on ttu.edu/livestream.
