Matt Wells and most of the coaching staff came to Texas Tech this offseason from Utah State. Namely, the coordinators, David Yost and Keith Patterson.

The Red Raiders have also added five grad transfers to the program: Zech McPhearson from Penn State; Evan Rambo from Cal; Armand Shyne out of Utah; RJ Turner from Louisiana-Monroe; and Jackson Tyner of Rice.

The trio of McPhearson, Rambo and Ingram will each have two years of eligibility remaining.

Fans thought once fall camp started, the roster was complete for Wells and the Red Raiders. But on Tuesday evening (August 20th), there was a late addition.

Ja'Marcus Ingram joined the program as a graduate transfer, the sixth this offseason.

Now, it might seem like a detriment for Ingram to join so late, but he knows the coaching staff and the playbook already, so there isn't going to be a grueling transition that generally accompanies a move like this.

Ingram earned his degree in three years at Utah State and will have two seasons to play at Texas Tech after starting his career as a walk-on with Matt Wells.

Ingram went on to start in 15 games in the last two seasons. He earned a starting CB job as a freshman and tallied 42 tackles starting 10 games in 2017. His 2018 season was cut short due to injury after just six games.

Ingram was penciled in to be a starter for Utah State this season and was widely regarded as the best corner on the Aggies' roster. It's a huge get for Coach Wells and a familiar face that could play early even with less than two weeks to opening day for Texas Tech football.
