On Saturday, the Texas Rangers' official Twitter account simply tweeted "FireCharlie. #bye."

It was during the Longhorns' blowout loss to TCU and it was referring to head coach Charlie Strong. The team went on to lose 50-7 after being down 30-0 at the end of the first quarter.

According to ESPN, the tweet was only up for a short time. But by then, people had taken screenshots and blogged about the tweet.

In a press release, the Texas Rangers apologized to the University of Texas and head coach Charlie Strong.

They also said the person who wrote the tweet is no longer employed by the Texas Rangers.

[Correction: An earlier version of this story identified the person who was fired as the Texas Rangers' social media director. The identity of the person fired has yet to be released.]
