KSAT reports that a 72-year-old Port Arthur man and his dog passed away from apparent heat exhaustion after not being able to get out of his new sports car.

Port Arthur authorities believe James Rogers did not know how to manually unlock the 2007 Corvette he purchased recently.

Rogers had stopped by a restaurant for coffee, and according to the report went out to check on his dog and left his cellphone in the restaurant.

They think that a cable had come loose after he got in and shut the door because there was no power to operate the horn or locks.

Temperatures on that day were in the 90s. Rogers and his dog were found later that day by another restaurant patron.
