For the last three years, U-Haul International, Inc. has named Texas as the "Top Growth State in America." But in 2019, Texas slipped from first to second.

In a press release on Monday, U-Haul announced that Florida was the Top Growth State of 2019.

From 2016 to 2018, Texas held the top spot, while Florida was second. The two states flipped spots this year after Texas saw a 2 percent decrease in the number of one-way rentals of U-Haul trucks. Departures were also down 2 percent, according to U-Haul's press release.

Growth States are calculated by the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a state versus leaving that state during a calendar year. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 2 million one-way U-Haul truck-sharing transactions that occur annually.

Texas arrivals of one-way U-Haul trucks were down 2% while departures were also down 2% compared to the state’s 2018 numbers. Arrivals accounted for 50.4% of all one-way U-Haul traffic in Texas to make it the No. 2 state for netting do-it-yourself movers.
