Tests For Lubbock’s Outdoor Sirens Will Happen Once A Month
According to a press release by the City of Lubbock, tests of their Outdoor Warning System will take place every month.
The next test will take place on Friday, April 8th at 9:30 a.m. This test will last around 3 minutes.
Monthly tests will now take place on the 2nd Friday of every month. However, if the National Weather Service forecasts at least a 10% chance of a thunderstorm on the day of a scheduled test, the test will be cancelled and not rescheduled.
The sirens are currently being tested silently around 3 times a day, and undergo "growl" testing once a week. A full activation test will only happen once every month.

The system allows to City to provide residents with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, like severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods.
The Lubbock City Council first approved the Outdoor Warning System back in February of 2021. Since then, a total of 45 sirens have been placed around Lubbock. The City had budgeted the project for around $1.1 million, but the winning proposal from Goddard Enterprises out of Oklahoma was for a bit over $710,000.
