Texas Monthly has come out recently with their 50 Best BBQ Joints in Texas. As a fan of BBQ, I always pay attention to the list and keep in mind some of the new places that show up from time to time. We have great BBQ throughout Texas and it seems like more and more great BBQ spots are popping up.

The same goes for Lubbock. In the last ten years or so, Lubbock has seen an increase in BBQ joints across the city. Some that are storefront locations and even some BBQ food trucks are putting out good, quality BBQ.

It should come as no surprise that Evie Mae's BBQ in Wolfforth claimed a top spot in Texas Monthly's top 50. In fact, Evie Mae's claimed the number 8 spot in all of Texas. Here's a little of what Texas Monthly had to say.

Beef ribs sell out quickly, but you’ll be just as satisfied with the fatty brisket, especially the decadent burnt ends. Saucy pork ribs have gotten trendy, so we appreciate the more subtle seasoning on these perfectly smoked St. Louis–cut ribs. The same could be said of the German smoked sausage. Yes, there’s a spicy, cheesy version too, but the original is bursting with flavor and has the perfect snap, no gimmicks needed. For sides, fresh green beans and green-chile cheese grits are hard to beat, though you shouldn’t ignore the cornbread.

Hungry yet?

After reading that Evie Mae's had claimed the 8th spot in Texas, I decided to meet up with a friend of mine for lunch today at Evie Mae's to see if it was really that good.

Full disclosure, I've eaten at Evie Mae's often and already knew how I would feel about the BBQ, but this article gave me another excuse to go and try the brisket and ribs again! The things I do for this job...

I arrived at about 11:20 a.m. and a line had already formed. It wasn't a long line and it wasn't even long enough to wait outside. The line moved quick and I enjoyed a Shiner as I waited. In line, people were talking BBQ and of course the ranking that Evie Mae's had received. Finally, I got to order and I went pretty basic. Moist brisket and ribs please. I also had their pumpkin dessert. Delicious.

The brisket was perfect and just enough fat. Great flavor and just about melt in your mouth quality. It was seasoned perfectly and each bite was great. The ribs were better than maybe I have ever had them. And that's not a knock on Evie Mae's. They have always been good, but these were perfect. Great flavor and the meat fell of the bone.

Congratulations to Evie Mae's in Wolfforth. You deserve it.

Now, it's time for me to take a nap.
