If you're looking to blow this joint for a few days, you could always check out the camel and ostrich races in Hobbs, New Mexico at Zia Park Casino, Hotel & Racetrack. This sounds like a whole lot more fun than just simply driving there on a whim and dropping $500 in a slot machine. Not that I do that often or anything...

*Sigh*

Guilty as charged. I love that place.

Camel and ostrich races aren't something I even knew existed before reading about this, and the photos are pretty hilarious. I wonder if the people riding those things ever thought when they were kids that someday they would make a career out of riding on the back of a big ol' bird. What a creative dream!

This silly event will take place on October 24th, 2021 at noon. The Cameltonian and Ostrich Derbys happen in between the regular horse races. According to Zia Park, they are entertaining for the entire family and a rather popular attraction. There will be food trucks on sight to enjoy, as well as an animal meet and greet.

I can't help but wonder if they know exactly what they were doing when they came up with the term "Cameltonian." Cameltonian... I will certainly be using that phrase in an array of different contexts from now on. You're all very, very welcome.

There's a $10 parking fee per car and that also covers the cost of viewing the event, as well as a $10 voucher for some casino SlotPlay to guests over the age of 21. All of these things are right up my alley. I'm incredibly allergic to horses, but I can already picture myself eating a handful of Benadryl just so that I can enjoy the entertainment.

See you there! Unless I fall asleep. In that case, wake me up for the ostrich race!
