A stranded motorist who was assisted by a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputy Tuesday, September 14th, turned out to be a wanted man.

The man encountered a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputy in the 1500 block of 114th Street around 11:20 a.m. The deputy assisted the man, taking him to the Stripes convenience store location at 82nd Street and Interstate 27, and later found out the initial name the man gave him was fake.

The man turned out to be 24 year-old Elias Junior Martinez III, who had an outstanding parole and pardon violation. When the deputy attempted to arrest him, Martinez fled the scene on foot, but was eventually found hiding in a nearby dumpster. Assistance was given by the Lubbock Police Department Canine Unit.

Martinez was placed under arrest and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center where he remains booked on charges of failure to identify as a fugitive and evading arrest, in addition to the warrants for parole and pardon violation. As of the publication of this article, Martinez is awaiting arraignment.

A look at his record reveals several previous charges, including assault and drug possession.
