Wait! Do not panic yet. Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts may have agreed to sell its parks in New Braunfels and Galveston, but ticket prices and events will stay the same at both locations.

The Ohio-based Cedar Fair Entertainment Company who already owns several amusement parks all over the country has agreed to pay $261 million dollars for the two properties. Cedar Fair is also in talks to purchase the Schlitterbahn park in Kansas City as well for an extra $6 million according to the Statesman.

So, what gives? The Henry family owns Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts and has since the New Braunfels park opened in 1979. They decided to sell the parks last year and have been working to secure a buyer. The two parks being sold averaged over a million visitors in 2018 and brought in about $68 million bucks according to the new owners at Cedar Fair.

Schlitterbahn has run into some troubles the last few years, most obvious seems to be the young boy killed on the Verruckt water slide in 2016 resulting in a gigantic lawsuit.

The indictments, in that case, said that a dangerous water slide was developed without proper safety measures. That water slide has since been demolished.
