Rolling Blackouts Are Done in Lubbock...Until They Aren't

Did your power go out this morning? Are you afraid that it's going to again? Fear not, for we bring you tidings of great joy.

According to a tweet from Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope:

LP&L has ended rolling blackouts for this morning. 27 blackouts were initiated and restored as planned. We may experience future situations which could require further blackouts. Our conservation efforts remain paramount.

So, what he's saying is that there will be no more blackouts...until they need to institute more rolling blackouts.

Basically, it's still up to us to conserve as much as we can until the temperature warms up enough to keep me from from turning up my thermostat to 82, which is never. I have some serious issues with Old Man Winter.

So, what can we do? For starters, if you're reading this on your computer, turn it off and switch to our app. Also, turn that thermostat down to 68 at most.

Yeah, this isn't a good idea.

In addition, if you can avoid using large appliances like washers, dryers and dishwashers, those also tax the power grid during peak demand times like this one. If you dirty a dish, hand wash that guy.

Finally, if you have a wood burning stove or fireplace, light 'er up in order to save the power that your heater will draw.

Remember, as we've heard on so many occasions, we're all in this together. By conserving wherever you can, I can continue to run my heater at 78 and wash my clothes with impunity.
