City of Lubbock work crews worked for hours on Wednesday, January 20th, 2021 trying to repair damage done to the city's power infrastructure thanks to a car accident.

The Lubbock Police Department and first responders were called to the accident at about 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, and found a black vehicle off the road and flipped completely upside down.

Police later said the driver of the truck lost control while driving on University Avenue near 41st Street and, for unknown reasons, went off the road and flipped over.

During the crash, the truck struck a wooden power pole and a gas meter. A photo of the scene shows the wooden power role almost snapped in half, but still holding on.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital and treated for moderate injuries. Their current condition is unknown as of the publication of this story.

City work crews worked throughout the day and night to repair the broken power pole, blocking off a portion of northbound traffic on University Avenue near 41st Street.

Lubbock Power and Light and Atmos Energy have not said whether the damage caused any gas or electrical outages in the area.
