Lubbock will soon be home to another pets supply store, located at the former location of BodyWorks for Women (5715 82nd Street).

The franchised store is Pets Supplies Plus, headquartered out of Livonia, Michigan. According to PRNewswire.com, Pet Supplies Plus has over 460 locations in 33 states, and that the company, "consistently adds 30 more stores a year."

Apparently, it's a very popular franchise opportunity:

Earlier this year, Pet Supplies Plus ranked No. 1 in the pet store category on Entrepreneur magazine's prestigious Franchise 500® list for the fifth straight year and No. 46 overall. With 460 stores open in 33 states, PSP is on track to surpass its goal of adding at least 50 stores by year end.

Judging from their website, Pet Supplies Plus seems to cover a huge spectrum of pet supplies, including dogs and cats, reptiles, small animals, fish and more. It appears that whether or not the store sells live animals depends on the location.

Pet Supplies Plus also has a rewards program and has a monthly flyer online. I also see a DIY dog washing station, a service I really hope the Lubbock location will have. My dog doesn't have the type of coat that requires professional grooming, but that doesn't mean I want to clog my bathtub drain with her shed. Ewww.

Lubbock is home to other pet stores, including locally-owned Pets Plus and Walter's World of Pets, which sell live animals and supplies. Boutique pet stores include Merlin's, Working Dogg Supply Co. and Three Dog Bakery, which focus on food, treats and items like leashes and collars for dogs and cats. Lubbock also is home to Petsmart, a pet supply chain.
