The Kansas City Chiefs won their first Super Bowl in 50 years last season and weren't messing around when it came to keeping the man who made it responsible in Kansas City for as long as possible.

Adam Schefter from ESPN is reporting that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have inked a 10-year extension that will keep Mahomes in Kansas City through the 2031 season.

The exact numbers of the deal have not been revealed yet, but it's expected to be the richest deal in NFL history and will total more than $400 million.

Mahomes has been in the NFL since he was the Chiefs' 10th overall pick in 2017. In 2018, he was the NFL MVP in his first season as an NFL starter. In 2019, the All-Pro was named the Super Bowl MVP after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to three-comeback victories in the playoffs.

After just two short years, Mahomes has become a beloved pillar of the Kansas City community. This deal aims to keep him in the area for the next decade.

UPDATE:

The deal is believed to be worth $450 million which makes it the richest deal in sports history. Not just the NFL, all of the sports.
