The City of Lubbock officially declared a public health disaster Monday afternoon.

Mayor Dan Pope announced earlier in the day that the declaration would be coming due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a presser on Facebook Live, Mayor Pope said the move would allow The City to reduce the number of peoples gathered in one location to 200 or less, despite still having no confirmed cases of COVID-19.

KAMC News reports that "exceptions were made in the proposal for Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, public and private schools, licensed daycares, weddings, funerals, museums, places of worship, bus stops and other "places of transit," office spaces, hotels, grocery stores, malls, retail establishments, hospitals, clinics and jails (or other detention centers)."
