It is that time of year in Lubbock. The weather is warmer, trees are beginning to flower, dust storms are picking up, and soon flowers will be planted. Yes, it is Spring time in Lubbock.

It also means that the City of Lubbock is ready to announce water restrictions on citizens. The City of Lubbock's annual Spring and Summer irrigation schedule will go into effect beginning Friday, April 1 and will last until September 30.

For those new to Lubbock or for those who maybe have forgotten or just not paid attention to the water restrictions in past years, this means that you are allowed to water your yard twice a week. According to a press release from the City of Lubbock, the days you get to water are based on the last digit of your house address.

Irrigate landscape only during two assigned days per week year-round

•  Irrigation schedules are based on the last digit of the house address:

Addresses ending in 0, 3, 4, or 9 – Monday and Thursday

Addresses ending in 1, 5, or 6 - Tuesday and Friday

Addresses ending in 2, 7, or 8 – Wednesday & Saturday

  • On your scheduled watering days, irrigation is allowed from midnight to 10:00 a.m., and from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.
  • Irrigate less than 1.5 inches per zone per week

Other Year-Round Restrictions

•  Irrigate only when temperatures are above 35 degrees Fahrenheit

•  Irrigate landscape without runoff

•  Do not irrigate during precipitation events

•  Hand watering is allowed any time of day and on any day of the week

With the lack of rain we have had in Lubbock, it's likely that many people will be watering their yards soon if they haven't been already. This will also lead to higher water bills in the months ahead so be on the lookout for that.
