Lubbock ISD Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo has said that despite Texas Governor Greg Abbott lifting the statewide mask mandate starting March 10th, Lubbock ISD students and staff will still be required to wear masks.

KAMC News reports that it was left up to the Texas Education Agency to decide whether or not masks would be required in schools, and the TEA has now left it up to individual school districts to decide.

On Tuesday, March 2nd, Governor Abbott stated that the statewide mask mandate that was put into place back in July 2020 would be lifted effective March 10th, 2021. Along with that, on the same day all businesses in the State of Texas would be allowed to re-open at 100 percent capacity. Any hospital regions that experience COVID-19 hospitalization rates above 15 percent for seven straight days may see mitigation tactics, but businesses may only be restricted to 50 percent occupancy limit.

The same day the governor made his announcement, Lubbock-Cooper ISD said that they would not be requiring anyone to wear masks starting March 10th.

Frenship ISD has yet to announce a concrete plan as to what they will be doing going forward concerning the end of the statewide mask mandate. On Facebook, the district said they were "evaluating the reopening guide that was developed over the summer and will collaborate with local health officials to develop a plan to address the new orders."
