
Texas Police Chief in Critical Condition After Being Shot in the Head

Darrell Allen, the chief of the Marlin Police Department, is in critical condition after being shot in the head while off duty Sunday, Nov. 1.
Allen was working as a uniformed security at The Laid Back Bar in Temple, Sunday, when he got into an altercation with a patron. According to another security officer, Allen was attempting to arrest the suspect, when, after a struggle, he was shot in the head.
Allen was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical, but stable condition, said Temple Police Sgt. Allen Teston.
Derreck Wayne Gamble (24) was arrested in connection with the shooting and has been charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer. He remains in the Bell County Jail in Belton, Texas, pending arraignment.
Marlin is a small town of under 6,000 people around the Temple - Waco area.
