Man Faces Murder Charge After Lubbock Stabbing Leaves One Dead
A man is facing a murder charge after a stabbing Sunday morning that left another man dead.
On April 10th, the Lubbock Police Department responded for reports of a stabbing just before 3:45 a.m. in the 2800 block of 43rd Street.
When officers arrived, 48-year-old Robert Flores was found suffering serious injuries from a stab wound. Flores was taken by EMS to Covenant Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Initial reports say a verbal altercation occurred between Flores and 31-year-old Jonathan Mermella and it escalated to a point where Mermella stabbed Flores.
Mermella was not at the scene when officers found Flores so an arrest warrant was issued. He was arrested later in the day in the 4800 block of Avenue P and charged with murder.
Mermella remains booked in the Lubbock County Detention Center. As of the publication of this article, no bond has been listed.
