A Lubbock man has been sentenced to over 35 years in prison after he was arrested in November of 2019, escaped the Bailey County Jail in August of 2020, and was then recaptured later that same day.

40-year-old Mark Anthony Lucio originally evaded Texas DPS troopers on August 25th, 2019 after they attempted to make a traffic stop. Lucio and the passenger led troopers on a high-speed chase before ditching the car and fleeing on foot. He was arrested after he jumped a fence into a nearby backyard.

While Lucio was detained, officers searched the backyard he was arrested in and found 3 bags of methamphetamine. They also found 2 handguns in his vehicle.

Officers returned to Lucio and found that he had run away, and he remained on the run until November of that year. Lucio pleaded guilty in June of 2020 to firearm and drug crimes.

KAMC News reports that on August 28th, 2020, Lucio was visited by 25-year-old Juan Anthony Cordero, who detailed Lucio's escape that would take place the day after. That day came, and Lucio managed to crawl under a sally port at the jail and got into a getaway vehicle being driven by Cordero.

Cordero was located later that day in Plainview and told officers that he gave Lucio a  gun and dropped him off in Abernathy. Lucio was later found in Abernathy and taken back into custody.

Cordero has been sentenced to a little over 1 year in federal prison for helping Lucio escape.
