Texas Monthly posted an article about all the best things that happened in Texas.

One Lubbock thing made the list and you might be shocked on what it is.

Because of Buddy Holly the dog.

That's right Lubbock made the list because of a dog. This special dog is a  a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, and was named Best in Show at the 2023 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Buddy Holly beat out six other finalists to be named "Best in Show" at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on May 9, 2023.

The 6-year-old bested six other finalists, including Rummie the Pekingese, Winston the French bulldog, Ribbon the Australian shepherd, Cider the English setter, Monty the giant schnauzer and Trouble the American Staffordshire terrier.

PBGVs for short, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen are originally from France. The small hounds' breed name means "low-lying, wire-haired dog from the Vendée region."

If you're wondering if this Buddy Holly is from Lubbock, well, I'm sorry to say he's actually from Palm Springs.

This isn't the first time Buddy Holly has met with posthumous fame, rock band Weezer had a huge hit in 1994 with the song Buddy Holly, a song about how the singer oo-we-ooo looks just like him. Of course, there's been movies and documentaries as well, and Lubbock does have The Buddy Holly Museum and Buddy Holly Hall. I actually had homeroom in the same room as Buddy Holly, as there is signage at Lubbock High.
