The Lubbock Police Department is encouraging citizens to remove firearms from their vehicles due to a high-rate of vehicle burglaries.

According to the department, over 830 firearms have been stolen out of vehicles in Lubbock since 2017.

Police say that removing them from unattended vehicles, especially overnight, could discourage potential thieves.

If you must keep a gun in your vehicle, the Lubbock Police Department recommends storing it in a strong box that bolts to the floor.
