One man was shot and killed in south Lubbock on Sunday, November 26th.

The Lubbock Police Department's Persons Crimes Unit is currently investigating the incident involving both a potential robbery and shooting.

Twenty-year-old Peter Caballero was pronounced dead at University Medical Center Sunday night (Nov. 26) after being shot in the area of 2200 99th Street.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, Caballero and a friend met with another man near the area where the shooting took place.

Although initial reports are unclear, Caballero and his friend are said to have been meeting the man for an item exchange of some kind, possibly arranged through Facebook or Craigslist.

Reports indicate the exchange quickly devolved into an attempted robbery of Caballero and his friend by the unnamed suspect who then tried to flee the scene in a blue passenger vehicle.

As Caballero tried to chase down the escaping vehicle multiple shots were fired from the vehicle at Caballero and his friend. Caballero was severely wounded as a result.

Caballero was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries and later pronounced dead at UMC.

Police have not yet identified or captured the suspect in the shooting and the case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.
