The Lubbock Patriot Guard Riders have announced that on Sunday, July 18th, they will hold a candlelight vigil for Lubbock County Sheriff's Sergeant Josh Bartlett.

Bartlett was killed in the line of duty while he assisted Levelland Police with a barricaded subject on Thursday, July 15th.

The vigil will be held at 9 p.m. at the Public Safety Memorial, located at 6601 Quaker Avenue in Lubbock. Deputy State Captain Leighton Lowell will be joining the patriot guard to ensure veterans and first responders can receive the organization's services when they pass.

Various political figures from around the state have since issued statements regarding the fallen Sergeant, including Representative Jodey Arrington:

Yesterday’s tragedy was horrific and heartbreaking. West Texas and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office lost a true hero in Sgt. Josh Bartlett. I ask our community to join me in prayer for all the officers who were wounded in yesterday’s shooting and their families. We must never, ever forget that our men and women in blue risk their lives every day to protect our families and defend our community.

Another statement, this time from Governor Greg Abbott:

Our hearts are with the loved ones of Sgt. Josh Bartlett as the state of Texas mourns his tragic death. Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe, and Sgt. Bartlett’s murder is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifices faced by law enforcement every day. Cecilia and I ask our fellow Texans to pray for the family and friends of Sgt. Bartlett as they mourn his death, and we also pray for the other three law enforcement officers who were injured in the line of duty.

Governor Abbott has since ordered that flags in Lubbock County be lowered to half-staff to honor Sergeant Bartlett.
