A Lubbock man who admitted to stealing over $250,000 from Christ the King Cathedral back in February 2022 has been sentenced to over four years in prison.

Forty-three-year-old Nathan Allen Webb was the only employee of the church that had access to the church's PayPal and Venmo accounts. He admitted to transferring over $261,000 in donations from the church to himself over the course of 18 months.

It's said that he made over 230 unauthorized transfers and would then alter bank statements to make PayPal and Venmo debits appear as credits. This would conceal the criminal activity from the church finance committee and diocese.

While in Colombia, South America back in March of 2021, Webb transferred almost $3,000 from the church's PayPal account into his own. The church then finally discovered the fraud and confronted him.

Following the confrontation, Webb stayed in Colombia, but the Colombian government ordered him to leave. Webb purchased a ticket to Fort Lauderdale, but since he knew FBI agents would be waiting for him there, he traveled more than 500 miles inland to Pereira. Colombian officials eventually located and detained him.

On top of being sentenced to 51 months in federal prison, Webb was also ordered to pay $261,440.20 in restitution.
