On Thursday, April 8th, 2021, a Lubbock man who was already out on bond for arson was arrested for attempted arson.

The original arson charge came in January 2020. Reports say that 33-year-old Joseph Leland Huntsman tried to burn down his parents' home. It's said Huntsman ignited a fire, which woke the other person in the house. That house was later determined to be unstable due to fire damage and water damage sustained.

However, even after being out on bond for that charge, Huntsman's parents said he was again trying to set their house on fire.

KAMC News reports Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to the 3300 block of 62nd Street on Thursday, April 8th, 2021 after they received a call from mental health case workers. They were at the scene because Huntsman's mother called them.

Lubbock Fire Rescue Captain Phillip Grandon says that Huntsman was accused of tampering with a natural gas supply line going into the water heater. This could have caused a fire or even made the water heater itself explode. The tampering was discovered after a brief investigation by the Fire Marshals Office.

Huntsman was arrested for attempted arson of a habitation and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center shortly after. His bond was set at $10,000, but as of the writing of this article, Huntsman is not listed in jail records.
