A Lubbock man is behind bars for an alleged road rage incident during which he is said to have impersonated a police officer.

According to an LPD police report, the incident took place Wednesday, April 21 when a man driving north on University Avenue became enraged after another vehicle passed him.

The man, later identified as 30-year-old Kevin-Michael Waits, chased the vehicle down and began yelling at the 4 occupants. The victims later told police that Waits also aimed his gun at them several times.

The police report also states that Waits' girlfriend was in the passenger seat during the incident and threw multiple items at the victims' car, including dinks.

During the road rage incident, Waits crashed into the victims' car on purpose, bringing both vehicles to a stop in the 2400 block of 19th Street. Police say Waits then got out of his car and revealed what appeared to be a police badge.

Waits told the victims that they would be held responsible for the damage to his car. Shortly after the accident, real officers with the Lubbock Police Department arrived at the scene and took Waits into custody.

Waits is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with the intent to cause bodily harm. Waits is also charged with impersonating a public servant and possession of marijuana. He has since been released on bond.

Fortunately, no one was apparently injured in the accident that Waits caused.
