Lubbock High School Calls Off Band Trip to Chicago
Lubbock ISD's decision to restrict school-sanctioned travel has already impacted a planned trip for Lubbock High School band members.
A trip to Chicago, Illinois set for June 1st-5th, 2020 has been canceled as a result of the district's temporary new policy.
An email sent to parents of band students obtained by KFYO News said "while we are disappointed that our trip to Chicago will not be able to take place as we had planned, the LHS Band staff is grateful for Lubbock ISD's response and efforts to keeping our students safe.Hello Lubbock HS Band Families."
Refunds will be issued, though may be slower than usual due to myriad travel cancellations across the country as a result of the coronavirus, the email explained.
Lubbock ISD has also decided to provide students in grades 2 through 12 with Chromebooks during the spring break.
"As the number of novel Coronavirus cases continues to increase, it’s important for us to be prepared for all possibilities, including an extended closure if mandated by the Texas Education Agency or the Centers for Disease Control," said Lubbock ISD Superintendent Kathy Rollo in an email to parents of Lubbock ISD students.
