A man from Lubbock County faces charges of attempted kidnapping.

On Tuesday, July 18th, 32-year-old John David Martinez allegedly broke into a home just northwest of Lubbock in the 5000 block of North County Road 1770.

Police say Martinez entered the bedroom of a 9-year-old girl through a window and began touching her inappropriately.

That’s when the girl woke up and screamed and her mother came to check on her. Martinez escaped the way he came, but was arrested by police soon after.

It isn’t Martinez's first run in with the law. According to KAMC News, he was arrested in 2011 for Sexual Assault of a Child, but that charge was dropped in 2015 to Injury of a Child. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Martinez has been charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit an Additional Felony and his bond has been set at $200,000.
