Lubbock City Councilman Randy Christian Announces Fourth Battle With Cancer

Lubbock City Councilman Randy Christian has been battling cancer off and on for over the past three decades, with the most recent bouts occurring over the past three years.

After being declared cancer-free earlier this year, Councilman Christian took to social media on Monday morning to make a new announcement: "A couple months ago, I told y'all that I had some good news about my cancer, that they did some screenings and couldn't find any," Christian said. "Well that's not the case now, I was screened last week and my cancer has returned. I know it is hard to believe, 'why does it keep coming back?', but as I've said before it is because of my genetics."

Christian has Lynch syndrome, which causes a pre-disposition to developing cancer. Over the past three years, Christian has had his cancer treated by doctors at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He will be battling his fourth round of cancer.

"A week from today I start treatments again. I will fight it like hell as always. I will keep my focus on my job as a councilman to do good things for District 5 and the entire city," he said.

Councilman Christian concluded his social media video by urging Lubbock citizens to stay vigilant in the fight against the coronavirus.

"I hope y'all have a good Thanksgiving, but please, please, please, mask up and stay separated, don't get in big groups. If you have to do a virtual Thanksgiving, figure it out. We've got to put a lid on, and slow down this awful virus," he said.

Randy Christian was elected to represent Lubbock City Council District 5 in May 2018, and his term expires in May 2022.
