Our Lubbock Police Department officers will be delivering hot lunches on Wednesday, May 13th, according to a Lubbock Meals On Wheels press release.

Next week is National Police Week, and May 15th is Peace Officers Memorial Day, so in honor of this occasion, Lubbock Police will be delivering over 800 hot lunches on 62 different routes for Lubbock Meals On Wheels.

A great big salute to our Lubbock Police Department for all that they do, putting their lives on the line for our safety each and every day. They are true heroes, and we can't thank them enough.

On Wednesday morning, Lubbock Police will be picking up fresh, hot meals and making a very special delivery. If you usually receive one of these terrific meals, don't be alarmed to see a police officer at your door.

This is a tremendous effort. Lubbock Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that provides meals to the homebound, elderly and disabled. Lubbock Meals on Wheels has been serving the Lubbock community since 1971 and provide a wonderful service.

The huge effort it takes to deliver 800 hot lunches requires about 1,600 volunteers. From humble beginning in 1971, when they delivered to 29 elderly people in need, this service has grown leaps and bounds. They call our attention to our local police officers, and we really appreciate that.

Next week is a week to show our appreciation to the LPD and all our peace officers. They're our hometown heroes.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels provide a heroic service as well, so think about volunteering or donating. They need our support. You can follow this link to their website for more information about Lubbock Meals on Wheels. And if you know someone who needs a hot meal, who is homebound or disabled, think about helping them connect with LMOW.

May 5th was #GivingTuesday, and Lubbock Meals On Wheels Facebook page shared their story and request for assistance. You can visit their official Facebook page for details on more ways to help.

Not only do they provide food, but they also help the homebound, elderly and disabled to stay independent and connected to the community. They even have a Pet Food Program to support the much-needed companionship of many pets.

A great big shout out and thank you to Lubbock Meals On Wheels and our Lubbock Police Department for all that you do.
