Chandler Jacobs was arguably the best non-D1 prospect available in the transfer portal this offseason and he just committed to Texas Tech. The 2021 Lone Star Conference defensive player of the year announced his move from DBU to Texas Tech via Instagram.

Jacobs confirmed the move to ESPN, "I choose Texas Tech because of the challenge and opportunity it presents with the coaches leading the charge."

Jacobs was a defensive stalwart last season at guard earning honors for his efforts, but his offense was pretty great as well with the 6-foot-3 shooter racking up 20 points per game while shooting 45% from three and getting more than seven rebounds a game for good measure.

Jacobs will come to Texas Tech as a DBU graduate with the extra year of eligibility of COVID allowing him the fifth year of collegiate opportunity.

Texas Tech's new head coach Mark Adams was all in on Jacobs early in his tenure and has seemingly landed his top target. That's been increasingly important in the last several weeks with the Red Raiders roster becoming emptier by the day. That has finally flipped with the commitments of JUCO star KJ Allen and now Jacobs.

Jacobs will help replace the production lost by Kyler Edwards and Mac McClung who have moved on via the transfer portal.

Texas Tech has added Ethan Duncan, Allen and Jacobs in the last two weeks. Add those three in with the existing roster of Clarence Nadolny, Kevin McCullar, Marcus Santos-Silva, Avery Benson, and Chibuzo Agbo.

That's 8 total players, so I'd expect the Red Raiders to add at least five more players over the summer if not six.
