Kelly Clarkson Tackles Miranda Lambert’s ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ on ‘Duets’
Well all know Kelly Clarkson is a country fan — and apparently her ‘Duets‘ partner, Jordan Meredith, is as well! In week three of competition, the two big-voiced singers chose to perform Miranda Lambert‘s ‘Mama’s Broken Heart,’ a fan favorite from the country singer’s latest chart-topping record, ‘Four the Record.’
How did tonight’s performance of the rockin’ country track stack up to Meredith’s previous performance? After two disappointing weeks at the bottom of competition, the pink-haired rocker redeemed herself with the stellar performance, which earned her an early second place standing. Meredith dropped one spot to No .3, just behind the Sugarland lead singer’s two teammates.
“Wow. Wow. Wow,” said a speechless John Legend just after Meredith and Clarkson’s performance. “I love the energy you were projecting. It was such a dramatic improvement.”
Resident heartthrob Robin Thicke had nothing but compliments for the budding talent. “Well, yeah — she looks tasty as pie right now,” said Thicke. “You were sexy and sultry. I’m very excited.”
How did the performance of the Lambert’s track sit with the show’s sole country mentor? “Of course I love that you chose that song,” said Nettles. “You looked like a rockstar, but you sounded like a country star.”
“I thought it was fantastic. You grew in this performance,” the ‘Stuck Like Glue’ singer praised.
Written by Music Row tunesmiths Kacey Musgraves, Shane McAnally and Luke Laird, ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ can be found on Lambert’s ‘Four the Record’ album. The track has been pegged as a contender for a future radio single for Lambert since the album was released last November.
