Katie Dean, the original owner of Lubbock's beloved Joyland Amusement Park, is turning 100, and she's spending it in the most fitting way imaginable.

Mrs. Dean will be at Joyland on Saturday, July 20th from 2 to 6 p.m. to meet with friends, family and employees and celebrate becoming a centenarian.

Mrs. Dean is turning 100!
Any current employees, former employees, friends or business acquaintances are invited to come by Joyland on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 2pm to 6pm to give Mrs. Dean a hug. Just check in at the front gate marked with the birthday banner so you can sign the guest book. No gifts please, just well wishes.

Mrs. Dean and her husband, Jimmy Dean, purchased Joyland in 1973 when it was called MacKenzie Park Playground. After Jimmy Dean's passing in 1993, Joyland has been run by The Deans' son, David.

Saturday will mark the first time Mrs. Dean visits Joyland after suffering an injury in February. Despite that, Mrs. Dean remains a vital part of the park's operation, her son told KAMC News.

"My mom's favorite part of owning Joyland is bringing smiles to family and friends," he said. "She's very sharp for a hundred-year-old and she still is very involved with the business."

Joyland Amusement Park is located at 500 Canyon Lake Dr. in Mackenzie Park, Lubbock, Texas.
