2026 looks to be a huge year for weight loss medications.

GLP-1 Drugs See Major Changes in 2026

Weight loss drugs were a hot topic in 2025 as millions of Americans boarded the GLP-1 bandwagon to lose pesky pounds. Although many took the drugs, many others could not due to the high price tag. 2026 may offer a solution for those who cannot afford an expensive medication. According to NBCFW, Wegovy and Zepbound will see a drop in price. There is also good news for those who avoided the medication due to a dislike of needles.

 A Drop in Drug Prices

Although weight loss drugs have soared in popularity, many lacked access due to the high costs or a lack of insurance. In 2026, the Trump Administration plans to offer a self-pay platform with TrumpRX.gov. The website will provide links to pharmaceutical company’s discount websites. Instead of costing thousands of dollars, the average monthly cost of weight loss injections on TrumpRX will be in the neighborhood of $350, dropping to around $250 over the next two years.

Lose Weight With a Pill

While many people lacked access to weight loss medications due to the high costs, others avoided the medication due to a dislike of needles. That will no longer be an issue. GLP-1 pills are on the way. A couple of months ago, the FDA gave Novo Nordisk the go ahead for the first GLP-1 pill for weight loss. The Wegovy pill is expected to be available this month, while another pill from Eli Lilly is projected to gain FDA approval later this year.  According to NBCDFW, a month’s supply of pills will cost less than a month of injections.

The Pill Does Have Some Drawbacks

Like the weight loss injections, the weight loss pills also come with drawbacks. The pills must be taken on a strict schedule and on an empty stomach each morning. Not adhering to the exact schedule can reduce the amount of weight lost by a patient.
