I-27 McCormick Ramp Closure Begins This Week

Do you know the saying, "It's darkest before the dawn"? That's how it is with road construction. It's darkest before it's done. The construction on I-27 has been a struggle for those who travel between Amarillo and Canyon. It'll be nice once it is finished, but to get there we have to deal with changes and closures. Speaking of closures, another traffic pattern is about to take place.

Drivers traveling south to Canyon will lose their exit as construction crews start to prepare the road for a traffic switch.

What's Closing Thursday Night

From 7 pm to midnight on Thursday, September 10, the southbound US 87 exit to Canyon will be closed. This closure will be temporary as crews move to a different phase of construction.

The Detour Route to Canyon

Drivers will have to use an alternate option to get to Canyon. This option will require drivers to take US 87 at Rockwell Road. Drivers will exit at Rockwell Road to continue to Canyon, then follow the frontage road to the US 87 entrance ramp from Country Club Road.

A Longer Closure on the Horizon

Here's where it is going to get annoying for drivers and will require changing your routine. You will no longer be able to enter southbound I-27 from the McCormick entrance ramp. This entrance ramp will be closed for several months as construction continues.

What Daytime Drivers Should Expect

For those traveling during normal daytime hours, crews will be placing concrete barriers, so expect traffic to be moving slower near southbound I-27 and McCormick Road.

This will be another annoyance in your commute, but the quicker this project can be done, the quicker we will be back to 75 mph roads and no construction until the next project.
