Spring is just around the corner, and that means people are going to get the bug to plant. Gardening is a big deal in Amarillo, but the Texas Panhandle is tricky, and you don't want to plant too soon or too late. When it comes to gardening, many people don't have a green thumb but would love to know the secrets to keeping things alive.

When to Start Gardening in Amarillo This Spring

The time to plant is near. If you need some help when it comes to gardening, you are in luck. There is an event coming up where you can find all the advice you need and all the tools to help you plant the perfect garden.

The Gardening with Masters Expo

This one-day-only gardening expo is hosted by the Randall County Master Gardeners. This group is trained in horticulture and works closely with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to provide gardening education to those of us in the Amarillo and Canyon area who need it.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 28, from 8 am to 1:30 pm at George Washington Carver Elementary Academy. The event is free to the public.

Why Texas Panhandle Gardening Is Different

If you're ready to start a garden in your backyard and you have no idea where to begin or what to plant, then you'll want to attend. If you've been curious about doing some homesteading and again don't know where to begin, then make plans to attend.

Don't be like me when I planted my first garden.  I put my onions in the same area as my strawberries, and that was a disgusting disaster.  However, my zucchini and squash cross-pollinated and somehow turned out amazing. Lori Crofford
