Amarillo Sod Poodles Bring Back ‘Reading With RUCKUS’
It's one of the coolest programs in Amarillo, and the one kid I have that's eligible to participate in it always does. He looks forward to being a part of it, and of course, getting all the prizes that come at the end of it.
'Reading With 'RUCKUS' is back, and it's an opportunity for kids to enjoy reading, get better at it, and be rewarded for it. Sure, reading the book IS the reward, as many would say, but let's be honest, kids don't quite understand that concept yet.
What Is 'Reading With RUCKUS'
It's a program that started six years ago in conjunction with the Amarillo Sod Poodles and several of its partners. It's intended to be an engaging way to inspire kids to read, and hopefully enjoy reading as they get older.
The program is set up in innings, just like a baseball game. For each "inning" they complete, they'll get a prize. An inning is one book from their grade level that is selected. They finish the book, they win the prize associated with that "inning".
What Prizes Can They Win
This year, the Sod Poodles have partnered with seven businesses, with the organization being the eighth and ninth. The innings this year are sponsored by Chuy's, Texas Roadhouse, Amarillo Sod Poodles Team Store, Whataburger, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Sonic, Don Harrington Discovery Center, & McDonalds.
Each one has an inning, and they will be the provider of the prize once the child completes the inning. The Sod Poodles represent the 9th inning, and if the kiddo makes it through the 9th, they'll receive a free voucher to attend a game. Every kid who participates will receive a free Sod Poodles bookmark.
How Do I Sign My Kid Up
It's done through their school, so there is nothing you need to do to get them in the program. This year is going to be the biggest on record, as over 21,000 students from 65 schools are set to participate.
