Ah, yes, Friday the 13th in Amarillo. A time where you're either spooked out, indifferent, don't believe the superstition, or you are absolutely psyched.

You'll find me in the indifferent category when it comes to Friday the 13th. I can see how some people have bad luck on the day, but I've always been of the ilk that it's caused simply by mindset. I prefer to seek out the deals some places run on this fateful day.

One Popular Deal In Amarillo

For whatever reason, when Friday the 13th strikes, people begin to start thinking about tattoos. I have no idea what actually spurs this, but it seems to be one of the most popular days to go and get inked up.

Many people get their first tattoo on Friday the 13th. No, not because of a superstition or anything like that, but because a lot of tattoo shops will run specials on Friday the 13th. Most reverse the number 13 and charge $31 for a tattoo. I mean, not a bad price if you ask me.

Amarillo Tattoo Shops With Deals

This seems to be especially popular in Amarillo, where almost every tattoo shop that offers a deal ends up packed with customers. Some shops will limit the number of tattoos they do at that price, while others are simply first-come, first-served.

So, where can you go in Amarillo for these cheap tattoos? One place we've seen confirmed is Bomb City Ink. Not only will they be doing their special on February 13, but also on March 13. Why? With the short month, we get Friday the 13th back-to-back.

Other shops that have traditionally participated in the $31 tattoos here in Amarillo in the past include Black Line Kulture, Good Vibes Tattoo, American Classic Tattoo & Piercing, and Texified Tattoo. As with anything, check with your favorite local artist to see if they'll be running any specials.

You may have passed it a million times while driving downtown, or you may be new to town. Either way, chances are you've seen the beautiful Herring Hotel. The beautiful aging brick tower sits unoccupied on 3rd and Pearce streets. It's a grand building that stands as a reminder of Amarillo's early days as a cattle and oil town and it tells the stories well.

A Look Inside the Abandoned St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, Texas

The old St. Anthony's hospital in Amarillo, Texas has sat abandoned--but not forgotten--since the early 2000s. The 100-year-old structure still cuts an imposing and impressive figure against the Amarillo skyline. The building serves as a cornerstone memory for many Amarillo natives--the place where life begun (or came to an end).

But for decades, the old St. Anthony's hospital has remained under careful surveillance, and not many know what now lies within. In July 2021, local artist and photographer, Ian Watson, was granted full access to the abandoned hospital--his photos offer an intimate and stark look at the legendary landmark of St. Anthony's as it stands now.
