Here’s How West Texas Just Invested $1.2M in the Next Generation of Skilled Workers
Texas is continuing to spotlight its focus on building the next generation of educated and outstanding employees. In fact, Governor Abbott recently announced that four grants totaling over $1.2 million have been awarded for West Texas!
What are JET Grants in Texas?
This massive million-dollar grant program was a part of the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) initiative.
The JET program prepares students for high-demand occupations by supporting independent school districts in partnership with state or technical colleges across Texas.
JET Grants Awarded to West Texas
There were a total of four JET grants awarded to four separate independent school districts (ISD) in West Texas:
- $265,620 granted to 50 students at Culberson County-Allamoore ISD
- $319,520 granted to 141 students at Denver City ISD
- $277,101 granted to 40 students at Iraan-Sheffield Collegiate ISD
- $340,145 granted to 100 students in Seagraves ISD
The grants awarded to Culberson County and Denver City school districts are for training students studying to be nurses, while Iraan-Sheffield is dedicated to train welders in partnership with Odessa College.
The $340,000 awarded to Seagraves ISD will help train 100 students as industrial engineering technicians. How impressive is that!
Governor Abbott's Message to Young Academics
Governor Abbott, in his announcement on Wednesday, couldn't be more proud of our young Texans as they grow and develop into strong members of the workforce.
Our workforce's greatest resource are young Texans. These career training grants of over $1.2 million for schools in West Texas will help students discover new career passions, gain the skills they need to enter competitive industries, and further our state's continued economic growth.
This just begs the question of what amazing skills the next generation will be able to learn through support of Texans like you. Only time will tell!
