46 years ago an explosion occurred in Lubbock, an explosion that some remember, but most don't due to the lack of media coverage at the time. But on May 18, 1978 the FBI descended on Lubbock and questions still remain to this day about the explosion in 1978.

May 18, 1978 was a pretty normal day in Lubbock. Music lovers were getting ready for Friday as Stevie Ray Vaughn would be playing at the old Stubbs BBQ and AC/DC would be rocking the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. Also arriving on that Friday in Lubbock? The FBI.

According to the FBI's report, on May 18, 1978 a bomb went off at the Alcoholics Anonymous Faith Club at 2814 Clovis Road. It's the same location where Faith Club currently stands.

On May 18, 1978, at approximately 1:10 AM, an explosive device was detonated at the Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.), Faith Club, 2814 Clovis Road, Lubbock, Texas causing an estimated $2,500 in damages. No injuries were sustained. Immediate investigation by the Lubbock Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) failed to develop and logical suspects.

The FBI's report is pretty heavily redacted throughout. The FBI, ATF, Lubbock Police and Texas Rangers all investigated links to terrorism, but found no links to terror. According to the report the bomb was believed to have been made with dynamite, safety fuse, and cap.

The FBI also investigated whether the bombing in Lubbock was tied to other events or groups, but the details of those possible links were blacked out.

Since the bombing, no suspects have ever been named and no one has reportedly admitted they carried out the act. It remains a Lubbock mystery.
