I know I can't be the only one to think sci-fi movie when hearing about monoliths, but this is the real deal. They focus on eco-friendly dome-shaped homes, businesses, schools, churches, and more.

The company website advertises their domes as "disaster-resistant, energy-efficient and cost-effective". Not to mention aesthetically pleasing to look at. Imagine living in a big bubble as it rains; peak auditory satisfaction, if you ask me.

Monolithic's headquarters are located off of I-35, south of Dallas, in a little town called Italy.

Cleverly-named Bruco (Italian for 'caterpillar') does serve a purpose besides being absolutely delightful to see. It's actually the manufacturing plant for Monolithic's domes.

You see, Monolithic has a patented way in which they construct their specialized domes. They actually fabricate what they call "Airforms" which are basically very large inflatable bubbles made from lots of tarp and a whole lot of air. These bubbles are then used as molds to build the dome around it, maintaining the iconic spherical shape.

So, the next time you visit the Dallas area or if you just want to scratch something off of your Texas bucket list, don't forget about Bruco, the Italian wonder, and his unique domes around The Lone Star State.
