A horrific accident occurred on Monday in the town of Granbury. A Granbury Independent School District student died on Monday after being struck by a school bus in the morning.

According to WFAA, a 5-year-old student of Emma Roberson Early Learning Academy, was hit by a district school bus. He later died from his injuries at a hospital. Granbury ISD Posted about the incident on social media. In the statement, Granbury ISD officials said they were "heartbroken" by the accident.

"We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our students. Please join me in keeping the family and our schools in your thoughts and prayers during this devastating time," the district said in a statement.

According to WFAA and the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred about 6:04 in the morning. The school bus was traveling northeast in the Comanche Cove subdivision. The Ganbury ISD bus had stopped to pick up students and as the bus was driving away, the 5-year-old victim ran up along the drivers side and ran in front of the bus. According to DPS the bus hit the child. The victim was transported to the hospital but died. At the time of the accident, there were 8 children on the school bus.

WFAA reported that there is no crosswalk or dedicated bus stop at the intersection and that the area is hilly leading neighbors to talk about blindspots.

Granbury, Texas is located about an hour southwest of Fort Worth.
